WASPC Jail Accreditation Standard 20.1 (Washington): Pest Control Policy or Procedures

The same requirement appears as Standard 21.3 in WASPC’s July 2016 Jail Accreditation Standards, and WASPC’s January 2023 list of suggested proofs still uses the 21.3 number.

The document describes its purpose, as printed:

“The purpose of this document is to provide those agencies seeking Accreditation and re-Accreditation with an overview and understanding of the Accreditation program offered by WASPC; and, to provide an understanding of the standards under which Accreditation occurs.”

What It Says (Verbatim)

Standard 20.1 (2026):

“The agency has policy or procedures governing pest control.”

WASPC’s suggested proofs for the same standard (January 2023 list, numbered 21.3):

“Agency policy, copy of pest control service provided/contract, invoice from vendor or memo to file stating what company the agency uses for this service.”

What It Means in Plain Language

The standard is one line: a written policy or procedure for pest control. The proofs WASPC lists are documents that show a policy exists and a service is in place. They do not ask what the service found or whether a complaint was closed.

That gap is where a jail’s own records matter. An accreditation file can pass on a policy and a vendor invoice, while a grievance or claim turns on what happened after a specific complaint.

Who It Applies To

Washington jails seeking WASPC accreditation or re-accreditation, as the document’s purpose statement describes. Whether any other Washington rule requires the same of non-accredited jails was not verified for this page.
